After enjoying a fixture-free Christmas period, Walsall returned to action on Saturday afternoon as they played host to Play-Off chasing Newport County in WS1.
With a three-nil win over Colchester United to build upon, the Saddlers were hoping to mount Play-Off challenge of their own as they hoped to cut the gap between them and their rivals.
The match didn't start well for the Saddlers as Newport took the lead with just four minutes on the clock as Dominic Telford grabbed his sixteenth goal of the season, taking advantage of yet more sloppy defending.
After going in a goal behind at the break, the Saddlers started the second-half better as they went on to level the scores as second-half substitute Conor Wilkinson netted his third of the season within just seconds of taking to the pitch.
However, Conor's contribution didn't end there as, just a few minutes later, he sent a header into his own net, putting the visiting Exiles back into the lead.
The match then entered another realm of ridiculousness as the Saddlers went on to level the scores as Newport's Matt Dolan put past his own 'keeper, only for Dom Telford to grab yet another goal just a minute later to put the visitors back into the lead.
The craziness didn't end there either, as Conor Wilkinson went on to grab yet another goal, this one coming at the right end, as the Saddlers snatched a late point on New Year's Day!
