Matthew Taylor Disappointed as the Saddlers Slip to the Sulphurites

Head Coach Matthew Taylor spoke to the press following the Saddlers' League Two clash with Harrogate Town.
Speaking after his side suffered their first league defeat in over a month, as Simon Weaver's side ran out winners by three-goals-to-nil, Taylor admitted to being disappointed with their lacklustre display.

Despite all three of Harrogate's goals coming with their fair share of controversy, the Saddlers struggled to make enough of an impact and deserved to be on the losing end of the result during a frustrating afternoon ion WS1.

After entering a string of solid displays, apart from their recent midweek EFL Trophy defeat to Forest Green Rovers, the result gave the Saddlers faithful an unwelcome dose of reality as their team has now lost twice in as many games.

Speaking to the assembled media, Matthew said; "It's disappointing because you didn't see the identity I've been so pleased with.

"That's not on the ball. It's the identity of the football club and the players off the ball. I don't think we worked hard enough.

"I don't think we picked up enough second balls. When you don't do that against teams at this level, you know you've always got an uphill struggle.

"Having been in that situation myself as a player, sometimes you try too hard. What I mean by the effort and desire is that we weren't in the right position to press often enough.

"Our starting position was not high enough and, therefore, we didn't pick up enough of those balls.

"When you surrender those positions to the opposition, you're always going to be struggling. It's just really disappointing we didn't get the performance I know the players can deliver."
