"The Players Were Exceptional" - Matthew Taylor Reacts as Walsall Defeat the Stags

Head Coach Matthew Taylor spoke to the press following the Saddlers' League Two clash with Mansfield Town.
Taylor, who had seen his side earn their second win in three league outings, sought to praise his team as they made it two wins in two games at the Banks's on Saturday afternoon.

George Miller's well-taken brace, coupled with Ash Taylor's header from Jack Earing's inviting corner, saw the Saddlers faithful thoroughly entertained during a fantastic afternoon at the Banks's.

Nigel Clough's Stags were able to dirty goalkeeper Carl Rushworth's sheet via Danny Johnson with six-minutes of normal time remaining, but that didn't dampen the Saddlers' spirits as they extended their unbeaten run to three games.

Taylor's side played with plenty of confidence and look to be gaining some much-needed momentum, something which the gaffer, who again took the time to celebrate with the fans as his side defeated the Stags, is keen to make the most of.

Speaking to the assembled media, Matthew said; "The players were exceptional in their work rate and attitude. For large spells of the game, we were in control.

"The players are really confident, and I'm hoping that confidence will continue to grow. We're extremely confident in the group we've got, and you're starting to see some snippets where the players are showing that.

"Maybe we shouldn't have conceded the goal, but at that time they had four forwards on the pitch.

"So, I enjoyed us out of possession. We were dogged and worked hard. George's tenacity sets the team off and to a man, every single player did their job.

That's what I asked of them before the game, and they went out and did it."

Despite enjoying the minority of possession, the Saddlers were able to bully their opponents and probably could have scored more goals, but Taylor isn't going to dwell upon that as he believes his players must enjoy the good times.

Taylor added; "Mansfield did not have a second to breathe or relax. We continually harried them.

"We were superior in our work rate, which is fantastic to say, as I think Mansfield are a good team with some very good footballers.

"We need to enjoy this feeling and understand how hard we have to work for this feeling. You have to earn the right and I'm extremely happy."
