As per a recent report first published by the Express & Star, Walsall forward Rory Holden is set to see a specialist in his latest bid to return from injury.

The 24-year-old Northern Irishman Holden has suffered a series of injury setbacks in 2021, resulting in him only managing to make two competitive appearances since the year began.

Holden had been back in training a few weeks ago but, as he was hoping to be involved in a matchday squad, suffered yet another setback, which sparked the club's decision to seek further information.

Saddlers boss Matthew Taylor recently confirmed that Rory will be seeing a specialist in order to establish what the issue is, with the former Bristol City man determined to get to the bottom of it in make a bid to return to action in the not-too-distant-future.

Speaking via the Express & Star, Taylor said; "At the moment, we're trying to establish what the problem is. That's not us at the football club.

"That's somebody else, external, to make sure Rory gets the best care. We all want him available but at the moment, unfortunately for him, he's not.

"He's got to make sure, and we've got to make sure, that we find out what the issue is and fix it.

"At the moment, as frustrating as it is for me to not have Rory in the squad, it's more frustrating for him.

"I've been there as a player, being injured is the worst part of the job. He can't do what he loves and what he's extremely talented at, which is playing football.

"So, we'll make sure we get him the answers we need, build him back up and get him on the pitch again as soon as possible."

Despite the recent setback, Rory has remained around the first-team squad and even making the trip to away games to cheer his teammates on, something which Matthew Taylor is pleased to see.

Matthew continued; "It tells you just how together the group are in that Rory hasn't been fit but has asked to come to every away game.

"He wants to come and support the team, and that speaks huge volumes about him as a person. He's desperate to be part of the group and support his team-mates."
