Walsall Head Coach Matthew Taylor has confirmed he is hoping to sign more players ahead of next weekend's season-opener against Tranmere Rovers.

Speaking after his side ended their pre-season campaign with a two-nil defeat to last season's League Two champions Cheltenham Town, the gaffer insisted he, and Technical Director Jamie Fullarton, are working hard to get deals over the line.

Having already signed eleven players over the course of the summer break, Taylor went on to admit that he is happy with his squad overall, but won't turn down the opportunity to add strength in attack.

With former Leyton Orient striker Conor Wilkinson and on-loan Huddersfield Town striker Kieran Phillips his only recognised strikers, Taylor is hoping to seal a deal or two before Saturday's 3.00pm kick-off.

Speaking via the Express & Star, Matthew said; "Every coach will say to you, he wants goalscorers in his team. We'd like to add one or two, and hopefully we can.

"I know the football club – Jamie and myself – are working extremely hard to make sure we can try to deliver that before the start of the season.

"But what I will say is that I'm extremely happy with the squad we've got. If we can add any numbers to that, brilliant, but we'll only be adding the right player or the right person because I'm really pleased with how the players are coming together."

Taylor then went on to talk about how well his squad has bonded over pre-season and, despite losing their final outing, believes strong bonds are being formed, even after such a large turn over of players.

Matthew continued; "Bonds and friendships are growing. I think you can see that on the pitch.

"They're all desperate to win for each other and working hard, and that's huge for us moving forward.

"Of course, we want to try to add more players to the group, but they've got to be the right players."
