Walsall Head Coach Matthew Taylor has spoken ahead of this evening's League Two clash with Scunthorpe United and insisted he still believes that his team can be successful this season.

Taylor's statement comes after his side suffered a duo of league defeats, with both Tranmere Rovers and Forest Green taking maximum points from the Saddlers, whist also exiting the Carabao Cup at the first time of asking.

Walsall welcome Scunthorpe United to the Banks’s Stadium this evening and will be looking to put their first points of the new campaign and Taylor admitted the match is important but he remains confident in his players and hopes they believe in themselves.

Speaking via the club's official website, Matthew said; "I am still in firm belief that these players have enough to be successful this season. That is 100 percent my feeling.

"Now, I’m asking them to have that belief. It’s great that they have that belief but they now need to show it on the pitch.

"We now go into the third league game of the season tonight and one, let’s be honest about the situation because we haven’t picked up any points from the first two games so it becomes an extremely important game for us.

"The players are very lucky because they’ve got an opportunity to put it right. You know having been in their position many times myself that football is a relentless game.

"What’s important when things are going well, try not to get too high, and maybe when things aren’t as well as you’d like, try not to get too low.

"The players were hurting and so am I. Our fans came out and supported us and we couldn’t give them a positive result to go home with."
