"I'm Really Happy" - Matthew Taylor Reacts to Walsall's Defeat to Crystal Palace

There were plenty of positives to take from the Saddlers' pre-season defeat to Premier League Crystal Palace.

Walsall Head Coach Matthew Taylor admitted he was happy with his team's performance, despite slipping to a narrow defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.

Speaking after the Saddlers and Eagles faced off during one of the hottest days of the year so far, Taylor insisted the match provided his team with an opportunity to learn from some of the best players in the game.

Taylor, who has overseen a major overhaul in WS1 since replacing Brian Dutton at the helm, was pleased with his team's desire to get the ball forward and look to take the game to their much-fancied opponents.

Wilfrield Zaha's goal four-minutes before the break proved to be enough to secure the win for Patrick Viera's side, but Taylor insisted there were plenty of positives to take from the game.

Speaking to the assembled media, Matthew said; "It gives the players a flavour of just how good some of these guys actually are. We are all looking to learn off other people.

"If our players can take something from the game today from one of their opposite numbers. What I will say is I thought our tempo in possession was good.

"We risked the ball at times, and I would like to see us do that a bit more and trust each other a bit more.

"But that will come. It is still a new group with bonds which will form over time. We came through it with no injuries, which is the main thing.

"We exposed our players to a high level of football in an 11v11 fixture so I’m really happy."
