Walsall winger Wes McDonald has spoken ahead of this weekend's season-ending clash with Carlisle United and insisted he isn't thinking about his future.

Wes is among a long list of Saddlers who will be out of contract at the end of June but is keen to concentrate on the clash with the Cumbrians before considering his options.

24-year-old McDonald, who signed an 18-month contract in January 2020, is set to make his forty-sixth appearance of the season at the weekend and the former Birmingham City apprentice is keen to

Speaking via the Express & Star, "I’m just focusing on the next game and then taking it from there.

"As a footballer, you want to be on the pitch. Any player wants that, to be playing and enjoying their football. I like the club.

"Walsall has given me a platform to play. Since I’ve been here the fans have been top class. I always enjoy playing in front of them. I’m looking forward to the next game and we’ll see."

Wes then went on to look at his season as a whole, admitting he's endured a difficult second half, spending much of the spell on the bench, something he is keen to change, whether that's in WS1 or not.

McDonald added; "The first half of the season I was getting the game time I needed. Of course, being out of the side is not what you want as a player, but it’s football.

"You have to crack on. I’m always ready for whenever the gaffer wants me to play or whenever I’m needed. That’s just how I am."
