Heading into the match on the back of a goalless draw with Southend United, Walsall were looking to earn al all-too-rare win as they looked to move away from danger and back towards the relative safety of mid table.
It was the home side who would grab the opening goal of the game as James Hanson reacted to an initially saved effort as he put his side into the lead with just nine minutes in the clock.
The Saddlers were able to level the scores before half-time as Caolan Lavery netted his seventh goal of the season during stoppage time to send the two sides in level at the break.
