EFL Statement: Updated Covid-19 Test Results

The EFL has released the following statement.
The EFL can confirm that an additional 531 players and Club staff from six EFL Clubs were tested as part of last week’s mandatory testing programme, with a further 11 positive cases returned.

The figures mean that in total, 4038 players and Club staff were tested over the period of Monday, 4th to Sunday, 10th January, with 123 individuals testing positive. This included 31 EFL Clubs returning zero positive tests.

Players or Club staff who have tested positive will self-isolate for a period of 10 days in line with Government guidance.

FUTURE TESTING ANNOUNCEMENT

On Friday, the EFL and Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) announced the introduction of twice-weekly COVID-19 testing for all 72 Clubs from Monday, 11th January.

The re-introduction of a League wide testing programme is designed to complement the League’s recently enhanced matchday and non-matchday COVID protocols.

The EFL will continue to make a central announcement of Covid-19 test results confirming number of tests taken and number of positives while the testing process remains in place, with results announced every Tuesday, starting on 19th January.

No specific details as to Clubs or individuals will be provided by the League.
