Josh Gordon Keen to Focus on the Here and Now

Walsall striker Josh Gordon has spoken ahead of this weekend's League Two clash between the Saddlers and Crawley Town, and insisted he and his teammates are determined to take each game as it comes.
The Saddlers will reach this weekend's game 12th League Two and, following a strong run of results over the festive period, have plenty to build upon when they tackle the Red Devils this weekend.

Darrell Clarke's side have only lost two of their last ten league games and despite a disappointing defeat to Cheltenham Town on Saturday afternoon, Gordon says the team is focusing on themselves and ignoring any outside distractions.

Speaking via the Express & Star, Josh said; "You just have to focus on what you're doing and focus on what our strengths and weaknesses have been. Try to improve us as a team.

"It's a long season, you have to keep focusing on yourself and not concentrate on people behind or people in front. It was the same last season, I think these two leagues are very close.

"You can win a couple of games and you can find yourself higher up the table. You have to concentrate on yourself as a team and try and get as many points as you can to keep going up.

"We've started to create a bit more resilience. To be able to come back into games now - we've shown that we've started to progress."

25-year-old Gordon has scored eight goals in all competitions - forming a strong partnership with Caolan Lavery - and has begun to hit the back of the net more frequently with the former Leicester City prospect insisting his goals are a result of the team creating more opportunities.

Josh added; "Towards the start of the season the strikers were looking at where the chances were going to come from. But as you've seen in the games of late, we've had more chances.

"People are getting on the goal-sheet a bit more. As long as we can continue getting those chances then I think the goals will start coming. We have a game plan, especially of late we have a game plan of how we want to play.

"The strikers just have to follow that game plan and work together. We've all got the same understanding of what we need to do as forwards."
