EFL Trophy: Walsall to Face Portsmouth in Round Three

The draw for the Third Round of the EFL Trophy took place earlier this evening, and you can find out who the Saddlers have been drawn against, below.
Darrell Clarke's Saddlers reached the Third Round of the competition after they bounced back after going two-nil down in the opening ten minutes if the first-half to knock-out Chelsea Under 21s by three-goals-to-two in midweek.

Second-half goals from Caolan Lavery, Wes McDonald, and Dan Scarr - the centre-back crashing the ball home in the fourth-minute of second-half stoppage time - saw the Saddlers safely through to the next round.

There were sixteen clubs involved in the draw for Round Three of the competition with the teams continuing to be split into both Northern and Southern sections.

Hosted by Sky Sports presenter Julian Warren, conducted by Steve Howey and David Wetherall, Walsall were joined in the Southern section of the draw by Stevenage, Newport County, Portsmouth, Milton Keynes Dons, Exeter City, Ipswich Town, and Bristol Rovers.

The Saddlers' reward for their comeback win over Chelsea U21s is a home tie against League One Portsmouth with this and all Round Three games set to be played during the week commencing Monday, 6th January 2020.
