Clarke to Sign Two Strikers as Walsall Accept a Bid for Morgan Ferrier

Walsall manager Darrell Clarke has spoken to the local press and confirmed that the club has accepted a bid for striker Morgan Ferrier, before going on to admit that his impending departure was an inevitability after the striker recently expressed his desire to leave the club.
Mansfield-born Clarke has already overseen a major squad overhaul during the summer as he has added fourteen players to his squad since the team suffered a disappointing drop to the fourth tier of English football following a dismal 2018/19 campaign.

The gaffer, who replaced Dean Keates in the Banks's Stadium dugout after the local-lad struggled to make an impact upon the team, admitted that he only wants to work with players who want to be with the team, before going on to discuss his desire to add more attackers to the team before Transfer Deadline Day.

Speaking to the Express & Star's Walsall correspondent Joseph Masi, Darrell said; "A fee has been agreed with a club for Morgan Ferrier. We have known for a while now that Morgan’s desire was to leave.

"He made that clear in the first week we came back. But these things take time to develop. We’ll wish him all the best and thank him for his efforts. I have said it all along we want players who want to be at the football club.

"It’s the start of a new era, a new dawn. It’s a new group, a new owner and I know the fans – having spoken with them the other night – want players who want to be here."

The 41-year-old will have Josh Gordon, Elijah Adebayo, and Mitchel Candlin at his disposal when Ferrier departs, and went on to guarantee that there will be at least two new strikers arriving at the club before the transfer window closes on Tuesday, 3rd September.

The gaffer revealed that there is plenty of work going on behind the scenes as he and club officials look to complete their summer transfer business over the next month with a view to propelling the team back towards League One in time for the 2020/21 campaign.

Darrell continued; "There will be two centre-forwards joining before the end of the window. There is nothing more certain than that. It’s about getting the right centre-forwards.

"I can pluck a centre-forward out from anywhere and bring him in tomorrow. But it’s about getting the right centre-forwards. It is such a key area of the pitch.

"We have obviously lost a lot of goals out of the team with Cookie going and Morgan going as well. But we are doing a lot of work in the back ground to make sure the two we get are the right fit for the club and for the job at hand."
