Clarke Keen to Add More Players to His Rebuilt Squad

Despite already adding eleven players to his squad over the summer, Walsall manager Darrell Clarke has revealed that he hopes to add another 'two or three players' to his team ahead of Transfer Deadline Day.
Clarke, who is currently in Poland with his first-team squad, confirmed that there are currently no deals in the offing but will continue to consider his options as he and his team continue to prepare for their season-opening clash with Northampton Town.

The gaffer, who has taken a twenty-two man squad over to Poznan, is currently taking a look at Bristol City prospect Rory Holden, with the highly-rated youngster currently the only trialist who is training with the team as players such as Kairo Edwards-John is considering options elsewhere.

Speaking to the Express & Star's Walsall correspondent Joseph Masi, Darrell said; "I brought a twenty-two-man squad out here and I’d still like to bring another two or three players into the squad by the end of the transfer window.

"We’ll continue to assess things as we go along, but there is nothing close at the minute. Recruitment is an ongoing thing behind the scenes and we’ll add two or three before the window shuts."

41-year-old, Mansfield-born Clarke went on to insist he is pleased with how the team is gelling with the season still a couple of weeks away. However, the gaffer also admitted that we won't really be able to tell how things are until the team returns to competitive football in early August.

Darrell continued; "I have had a look at everyone and they have all worked hard and conducted themselves well. There is a really good togetherness about the group.

"They are gelling together quickly. They have done well, I’ve been relatively pleased with where we are at with a few weeks still to go.

"They are a decent group that is willing to work and take things on board. But the proof in the pudding is when the season starts."

The Saddlers still have two days left in Poland and Clarke, who guided his team to victory over Polish side Odra Opole on Tuesday morning, is pleased with how the trip has gone, revealing the group enjoyed a barbecue after earning a hard-fought win.

The manager added; "We had a double session on Monday – the lads worked really hard. Tuesday was the game and then a recovery session. Then we had a barbecue, it’s been good."
