A Trio of Trialists Depart as Clarke Continues Consider His Options

Darrell Clarke has confirmed that the three trialists who featured in the Saddlers' pre-season defeat to Alfreton Town have not been offered deals and are free to seek employment elsewhere.
The players featured - goalkeeper Jonathan Flatt and strikers Liam McAlinden, and Alex Nicholls - will not be forming part of Clarke's new-look Walsall side with the gaffer deciding to look elsewhere.

Clarke will, however, continue to assess some of the trialists who were named in the team which ultimately held Leamington to a draw on Tuesday evening. with former Leicester City winger Kairo Edwards-John, and Blues prospect Koby Arthur all featuring along with an as-yet-unknown striker.

Clarke, who has already added eight players to his squad following the recent relegation to League Two, will continue to asses those players as he continues to prepare for the opening game of the season against Northampton Town.

Speaking via the Express & Star, Darrell said; "The trialists involved at Alfreton – there were no offers on the table there. I’ll discuss with my staff some of the boys that have been in for trial this week, we’ll discuss that and see how we go forward it."

One player already sorted for the coming campaign is midfielder Danny Guthrie as the former Newcastle United man was named among a trio of players signed by the Saddlers on Thursday afternoon.

Danny joined ex-Birmngham and Yeovil man Wes McDonald and the returning Mat Sadler in penning terms with the Saddlers, adding both width and experience to the squad ahead of next week's trip to Poland.
