Josh Gordon: "I Am Confident We Will Get Over the Line"

Walsall striker Josh Gordon has spoken ahead of this weekend's televised Sky Bet League One clash with Barnsley and revealed that he believes that the Saddlers' last two results haven't justified the way the team have been playing as of late, with both results coming despite an improved level of performance.
Back-to-back defeats to promotion chasers Portsmouth and Sunderland saw the Saddlers drop into the League One relegation zone for the first time this season, but Gordon, who netted the Saddlers' only goal during last weekend's defeat to the Black Cats, wants the team to remain positive heading into the last eight games of the season as they have what it takes to return to winning ways.

Speaking via the club's official website Josh said; "The result against Sunderland doesn’t justify the way we have been playing I don’t think. The Portsmouth game didn’t justify the way we have been playing either.

"When we head into the next few games, we have just got to keep playing positively and results will change for us. We will go back to the training ground this week, look at what went wrong against Sunderland and then just try and nullify all those little bits. I am confident that we will get over the line.

"We can’t drop our heads. It is important that we keep on going. Southend are just above us but they are only there on goal difference and we are only four points off twelfth so you can’t look at it negatively as if we are going to go down. We have got to keep going as a team, picking up points where we can.

"We are showing it in games that we are playing that we are putting in good performances, it’s just about trying to get over the line now and it’s about grinding those results out.

"We’ve played Sunderland four times now. The time that we beat them here, I felt like we deserved the win. The two times we played them at home and picked up draws, I thought we deserved to win those games as well so it was frustrating not to get something out of this game, whether it was a win or a draw.

"We have given them a game every time we have played them so far this season. If people who weren’t there on Saturday saw the result then I don’t think it would justify the way we played."
