EFL Set to Move League One & Two Transfer Window Back to End of August

League One and Two clubs are set to get three extra weeks to sign players in August, after the EFL backed plans to split the closure of the summer transfer window.
EFL Clubs have given their backing to a revised approach to the closure of the summer transfer window by indicating their support for a split in the timing of the deadline for Clubs in the Championship, and those in League One and League Two.

The matter has been on the agenda for discussion with EFL Clubs in recent weeks and months, with Championship Clubs supporting a proposal put forward at a meeting in February whereby the deadline for all incoming permanent and loan registrations closes on 8 August.

Following further debate, representatives from League One and League Two have this week backed a different approach, agreeing to a deadline at the end of August for all signings.

A formal vote on the matter will now be put to Clubs at an Extraordinary General Meeting in April in order to ensure Clubs have sufficient time to prepare ahead of the summer transfer window opening in June.

In a statement released via EFL.com, soon-to-depart EFL chief executive Shaun Harvey said; "By adopting this approach, EFL Clubs have been given the opportunity to determine the direction of travel, with our priority ensuring that everyone has a clear understanding of the arrangements as soon as possible so as to ensure plans can be put in place for next season.

"This week’s vote indicates strong support for a difference in approach across the Championship and Leagues One and Two and proposals will be finalised ahead of a formal vote at an Extraordinary General Meeting in April."
