Josh Ginnelly: Keates Confirms Winger is Under Offer as Preston Close In

Walsall manager Dean Keates has spoken to the local press and explained why winger Josh Ginnelly missed Saturday's League One draw with Peterborough United.
The gaffer confirmed that 21-year-old Ginnelly, who has made twenty-five first-team appearances since returning to the Saddlers on a free transfer over the summer, is the subject of a transfer offer, with Sky Bet Championship side Preston North End believed to be the club looking to complete a deal.

Speaking after his side had been held to a 1-1 draw by the fourth-placed Posh, Keates said; "Josh is not here. We had to come here and we needed a reaction on the back of last week today, one or two things going on, and we've had an offer for him so I had to make a decision I felt best for the group today and he's just not travelled with us.

"We had to come here and needed a reaction on the back-end of last week, and there is a concrete offer been tabled this week and I had to make the right decision for this football club, and I think that was justified, not just the football club but the group in the changing room, and what happens over the next two weeks will happen."

The Coventry-born man, who was on-loan at Banks's Stadium during the 2016/17 campaign, spent last season on-loan with Lincoln City and National League - Play-Off winners Tranmere Rovers and was released by parent club Burnley shortly after the Prenton Park outfit had secured a return to the EFL.

Josh, who has not been named in the Walsall squad to take on Peterborough United this afternoon, is out of contract in the summer and was believed to be high on manager Dean Keates' list of priorities as he looks to secure the futures of his squad's brightest and best, with many deals set to expire at the end of the current campaign.

North End remain hopeful of securing the wingers signature, with the North West club reportorial seeking to land 'Gino' on a cut-price deal with the player having such a short contract length remaining.
