Central League Cup: Bristol Rovers 4 Walsall 2

Here is our Match Update from Tuesday afternoon's Central League Cup - South Central clash between Walsall and hosts, Bristol Rovers.
John Ward's Walsall Devlopment side were back in action on Tuesday evening as they made the trip South to take on Bristol Rovers in their third and final Central League Cup - South Central group game of this season's competition, the match taking place at Yate Town's Lodge Road ground.

The Saddlers, who opted not to take part in the Central League this season, arrived at the match in third position in the group having defeated Burton Albion before losing to Shrewsbury Town in their previous competition outings. Opponents Bristol, who are managed by Chris Hargreaves, sat second in the group having beaten Burton Albion and lost to Shrewsbury Town in their previous matches.

Shrewsbury Town topped the group heading into today's games after winning both of their games, scoring six goals and earning two clean-sheets, putting them on track to join the rest of the group winners in the next round.

Sadly for the young Saddlers, their trip South wasn't a positive one as Rovers created lots of goal-scoring opportunities and were able to round off the group stage with a win, cementing second place behind Shrewsbury.

Goals from Gavin Reilly (12' & 89'), Alex Jakubiak (50'), and Sam Matthews (78') saw Bristol secure victory  but our hosts didn't have it all their own way as the Saddlers grabbed a couple of goals of their own.

Walsall's opening goal came via under-18s captain Tom Leak, as he remained alert to stab the ball home following a scramble in the penalty area. The Saddlers' second goal arrived via striker Cameron Peters, who pounced on an Alexis Andre Jr mix-up to close the gap.
