Keates Pleased With Walsall's Winning Reaction

Walsall manager Dean Keates has spoken of his pride following last weekend's victory over Oxford United and praised his team for bouncing back from their recent defeat to Doncaster by returning to winning ways at the earliest opportunity, maintaining their strong start to the season.
The Saddlers will arrive at this weekend's clash with Accrington Stanley sat in fifth place in the League One table after suffering just one defeat in their opening nine league games, and Walsall-born Keates believes team spirit has been a key factor behind the early-season success.

Speaking via the club's official website - Saddlers.co.uk - the Gaffer, who recently celebrated six-months at the helm, said; "We are pleased with the start we have made. We were disappointed to lose against Doncaster.

"But it happened and we are looking on the positive side - we will take the reaction we got. Team spirit is key to everything. I have been in changing rooms when not too much is expected of you.

"But you can always go against the odds. So long as the changing room is healthy, strong and everyone is pulling in the same direction, you have got an opportunity to achieve something.

"I’ve said from day one we are always going to be unfancied. But we have got to have belief and confidence in each other. It needed the players to come in and buy into what me and my staff are trying to do and they have done that.

"Training has been bright, it’s been sharp. I think the weather as well has kept a smile on everyone’s face. It’s been a good week and we’re looking forward to Accrington. It’s going to be a difficult game."
