Josh Ginnelly Delighted With Walsall's Open Style of Play

Walsall winger Josh Ginnelly has spoken to the press ahead of Saturday's League One clash with Gillingham, and admitted that manager Dean Keates' open syle of play is helping his players to thrive, revealing that he and his teammates are encouraged to express themselves.
Ginnelly, who returned to the club on a permanent basis following a fourteen game loan spell at the start of the 2016/17 campaign, insisted that the gaffer's desire to play attacking football has helped him, fellow winger Zeli Ismail, and strikers Andy Cook and Morgan Ferrier to be at their best, even in the early stages of the campaign.

Speaking via the Express & Star, Josh said; "It’s the way the gaffer is – he is so open, he wants us to go out there and express ourselves. There are no restrictions in the final third. It’s literally freedom. You saw it at Scunthorpe, Zeli went on a great run, won a penalty, scored the penalty and it earned us a point.

"We should have won the game with the chances we created. But as soon as we get over that halfway line we have the freedom to create some magic. And that’s the same for me, Morgs, Cookie, and Zeli. We are all enjoying ourselves."

The Saddlers welcome Gillingham to Banks’s Stadium on Saturday afternoon as they look to continue their unbeaten start to the campaign. But while confidence is high, the winger insists nobody is getting too carried away, he continued; "I think with the way we are playing at the minute, it’s given everyone a massive boost of confidence. Our front four is very good and the defence is strong, everyone is on their game. We have gelled together but we are still going to get stronger and stronger.

"We want to now get another good result against Gillingham and see where that takes us. It’s important to just take things game by game. But we want to keep raising our standards and the support we have received has been fantastic. It’s great to see the fans backing us all the way."
