Released and Retained: Five Released as Bakayoko Stay Extended

As we near the end of a disappointing 2017/18 campaign, Walsall manager Dean Keates has begun to shape his squad ahead of a summer which is likely to see plenty of comings and goings as the gaffer looks to avoid another season of struggle.
Keates recently spoke to the local media and admitted that, following a campaign which saw the side struggle towards the bottom of the League One table, he is keen to revamp his side, insisting he will build a team which will represent the fans.

The gaffer also admitted that although the vast majority of the squad are already under contract for next season he had some difficult discussions to make if he is to guide the side towards the prize-paying positions.

In a statement, released via the club's official website - Saddlers.co.uk - it has been confirmed that Vice Captain Joe Edwards has been offered a new deal whilst striker Amadou Bakayoko will be remaining at the club after they took up an option to extend his stay for a further year.

Florent Cuvelier, Simeon Jackson, Reece Flanagan, Will Shorrock and Milan Butterfield have all been given free transfers and therefore been released. The Club would like to place on record our thanks to these players for all of their efforts and contribution during their time with the Club and we wish them well in the future.

The Club have made numerous attempts to extend the contract of Erhun Oztumer over the last 12 months. However, Erhun’s representatives have expressed a desire to explore alternative options and, while the Club remain open to negotiation, they respect that position
