Walsall Dealt a Blow as West Brom Close in on Liverpool Striker Daniel Sturridge

West Bromwich Albion are poised to sign Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge on loan for the remainder of the season.
According to the latest media reports, local Premier League side West Bromwich Albion are poised to sign Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge on loan for the remainder of the season, after seemingly deciding against making a move for Watford striker Troy Deeney.

Sturridge had been heavily linked with a temporary switch to several clubs including Inter Milan and Sevilla but is believed to have settled on the Baggies, despite Newcastle United being the bookies favourite to land the Birmingham-born 28-year-old.

The Hawthorns club had been expected to table an offer of around £16,000,000 for Watford striker Troy Deeney but appear to have turned their interest towards Sturridge as recently-appointed manager Alan Pardew looks to strengthen his squad.

Today's news will serve as a blow to Walsall as they are inline to receive around 20% of any fee Warford receive for Deeney after negotiating several add-ons in the deal which saw the striker swap the Bescot for Vicarage Road in 2010.

29-year-old Deeney, who has made over three-hundred first-team appearances since he joined the Hornets from the Saddlers, is understood to be open to a move away from the Hertfordshire club should the right offer come along, however he looks set for another few months with the club as the January Transfer Window nears its end.
