Saddlers Trio Dealing With Hamstring Injuries

Jon Whitney has confirmed that Liam Roberts, Joe Edwards and Tyler Roberts missed Saturday's victory over Scunthorpe United with hamstring injuries.
Walsall manager Jon Whitney has spoken to the press following Saturday's League One victory over Scunthorpe United and offered a brief injury update, revealling that goalkeeper Liam Roberts, midfielder Joe Edwards and on-loan striker Tyler Roberts are all dealing with hamstring injuries, and face a race against time to be considered for next weekend's trip to Northampton Town.

Jon, who was speaking via the Express & Star, said; "Joe trained on Thursday and Friday, but it was a bit too soon. Other lads have done well so I didn’t want to (risk him) really, especially with the hamstring Joe has had. It was too risky. He has got to train for, at least, another two or three full days before I can really consider him for first team duties.

"Tyler just tweaked his hamstring on Thursday. Very slight but, again, it was too risky. We knew we needed energy up there and I think Amadou Bakayoko occupied them and was always a threat - his energy was outstanding. Liam tweaked his hammy in the last game. Gilly has waited and came in and did really well. Players have got to be ready when called upon, and this group of players are."
