Matty Fryatt Could Earn Walsall Deal - But There is Plenty of Work to Do

Walsall manager Jon Whitney has spoken to the press and offered an update on the status of Matty Fryatt, who has been training with the club for the last few months.
Walsall manager Jon Whitney has spoken to the local press ahead of Saturday's League One clash with table-topping Shrewsbury Town, and has offered an update on the fitness of striker Matty Fryatt, who has been training with the Saddlers for the last few months.

Jon, who was speaking to Express & Star columnist Joseph Masi, said; "Matty is doing really well. He is still here and still working tirelessly with Marc Czuczman and Mark Bradley. It’s a situation we will look at in the next couple of weeks. I think me and Matty need to sit down, have a chat and look at how we move forward.

"He has progressed really well. But in a way, he is now starting what is his pre-season. We have put him in a position physically and mentally where he is ready to take part in a full pre-season.

"Pre-season, though, is six to seven weeks. That shows what an incredible amount of work there is still to do. But it also shows how well he has done to get himself into that position. Credit has to go to all parties involved. But the time is coming where we have to make a decision."
