MATCH PREVIEW | v Peterborough United (H)

We look ahead to Saturday afternoon's Sky Bet League One clash between Walsall and Peterborough United.
Walsall have the chance to bounce back from Tuesday evening's disappointing defeat to Rotherham United this weekend as they play host to Peterborough United at Banks's Stadium. Here, we take a closer look at the game.

WALSALL LATEST

Walsall have plenty of work to do this weekend as they look to regain the trust of their supporters following a disappointing display at the AESSEAL New York Stadium on Tuesday evening.

A five-goal-to-one scoreline nothing short of an embarrassment as Jon Whitney's team simply failed to turn up for much of the opening forty-five minutes, allowing their opponents to notch four goals before the break.

A second-half strike from Amadou Bakayoko was little consolation for the travelling faithful as they endured one of the worst performances for many years.

Jon Whitney is expected to ring the changes following Tuesday evenings defeat to Rotherham as Florent Cuvelier, Dan Agyei and Kieron Morris could all start as Shaun Donnellan, Amadou Bakayoko and Joe Edwards could to make way.

PETERBOROUGH TEAM NEWS

Second placed Peterborough arrive at this weekend's match on the back of a two-nil victory over Milton Keynes Dons and will be keen to stay in the automatic promotion places as they visit Banks's Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Posh midfielder Anthony Grant is back in contention following suspension. Manager Grant McCann is expected to stick with the side he selected for the victory over MK Dons as Liam Shephard, Andrew Hughes, Chris Forrester and Ricky Miller all came into the side and contributed to the win over the so-called Dons.

Walsall and the Posh first met on Saturday, 5th December 1959 in an FA Cup Second Round clash which saw Peterborough advance to the Third Round by three-goals-to-two.

Their first league meeting took place at London Road on Saturday, 19th October 1963 and saw the Saddlers win by two-goals-to-one. Walsall would win three of the first five league meetings, losing the remaining two.

In more modern times, the Saddlers have enjoyed a strong run against the Posh, drawing five and winning three of the last eight league games. Walsall last suffered defeat to Peterborough in January 2011 as goals from Craig Mackail-Smith (2), Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Ryan Bennett cancelled out Alex Nicholls' tenth minute opener to secure a comfortable win.

The two sides last met on Saturday, 18th February 2017, in a match which saw Whitney's Walsall score late on as Erhun Oztumer and Kieron Morris snatched all three points in front of the Banks's Stadium faithful.
