IN BRIEF | Walsall & Port Vale Play Out Goalless Draw

The Saddlers' development side were back in action on Wednesday as they took on Port Vale in the Central League Cup.
John Ward's Walsall development side were back in action on Wednesday afternoon as they played host to Port Vale in the group stage of the Central League Cup.

The game, which saw the Saddlers name a fairly young line-up, took place at Ray Hall Lane in Great Barr and was an ultimately goalless affair. Midfielder Reece Flanagan went closest for the Saddlers as a sweetly-struck free-kick rattled the bar and appeared to bounce over the line just under ten minutes before half-time. The visitors also created plenty of opportunities but neither side was able to score as the sheets remained clean.

The Development Squad are next in action next Wednesday afternoon as John Ward's side travel to Morecambe in a Central League game.
