Mark Gillespie Named in EFL's 'Team of the Week'

Walsall goalkeeper Mark Gillespie has been named in the EFL's 'Team of the Week' following his brace of penalty saves against Bury.
Along with being named in the Football League Paper's League One 'Team of the Day', Walsall goalkeeper Mark Gillespie has also been named among the squad for the EFL's 'Team of the Week'.

25-year-old, Gillespie, who made his first-team debut at the weekend as the Saddlers opened their 2017/18 campaign with a defeat to Bury, joined the club following almost ten years with Carlisle United.

The Newcastle-born stopper saved two penalties as he looked to keep his side in the match against the big-spending Shakers.

Despite his spot-kick heroics Gillespie was unable to prevent Bury from scoring as former Everton striker Jermaine Beckford found the back of the net just before half-time, his goal proving enough to defeat the shot-shy Saddlers as they began their campaign with a defeat.

Mark has been named in the team alongside Willy Boly (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Jack O’Connell (Sheffield United), Patrick Bauer (Charlton Athletic), Jodi Jones (Coventry City), Kalvin Phillips (Leeds United), Andrew Shinnie (Luton Town), Garry Thompson (Morecambe), Bobby Reid (Bristol City), James Collins (Luton Town), Conor McAleny (Fleetwood Town) and manager Nathan Jones (Luton Town).
