Walsall manager Jon Whitney has spoken to the local press following his side's Sky Bet League One defeat to Rochdale, and has discussed the loan of Scunthorpe United defender Scott Laird, which is due to expire on Tuesday, 10th January.

Speaking via BBC WM Sport, Jon admitted that the extension of Laird's loan is not a foregone conclusion, he said; "His loan's up in the 10th, That's his last game as of today as it is now. There's a lot of factors which will influence that, how Scunny are, what injuries they've got from today, what Norwich are going to do with (Harry) Toffolo, (Conor) Townsend is injured with a hamstring so things aren't looking great for me at the moment.

"They're going to protect themselves and I have to realise, being in football for so long you've got to be quite careful, because promises aren't always kept, but we'll see what happens over the coming days. I need to have a 'plan b' just in case I do lose Lairdy."
