Here is the City report that the 21-year-old Republic of Ireland Under 21 international has fallen down the pecking order at Celtic Park and is set to join the Saddlers in search of first-team football.

O'Connell has made a handful of appearances since he turned pro in 2014 and has found his chances limited this season as Jozo Simunovic and Erik Sviatchenko returned to full fitness following brief spells of injury.

Celtic defender Eoghan O'Connell is poised to join League One Walsall on loan. O'Connell is highly-regarded within the corridors of power at Celtic Park, but he has slipped down the pecking order in Brendan Rodgers' plans in the last few months.

The Republic of Ireland under-21 international made seven appearances for Celtic earlier in the season but has not played for two months following the return from injury of Jozo Simunovic and Erik Sviatchenko.

Walsall, who recently lost the services of Aston Villa defender Kevin Toner following the end of his six-month loan spell, are looking to strengthen their defence as they hope to move into the top-half of the table over the remainder of the campaign.
