Walsall manager Jon Whitney has spoken to the local press and discussed former Saddlers loanee Matthew Pennington, and whilst he admitted that he continues to track the Everton prospect, he has conceded that the centre-back will not be returning to Banks's Stadium.

Speaking to Joseph Masi of the Express & Star, Jon said; "I speak to Matty quite regularly and he has had a really serious hamstring injury. He is still not back. I speak to Joe Royle at Everton all the time about him because I’m really fond of the kid. But he’s not ready fitness wise. So Matty won’t be coming back."
