As he and his squad prepare for Boxing Day's League One clash with Port Vale, Walsall manager Jon Whitney has spoken to the local press and discussed his desire to add some much-needed experience to his squad during the upcoming January Transfer Window.

Jon, who was speaking to several members of the local media, said; "I will be looking to strengthen in January if I can. The merry go round is starting. It's picking up pace. I think I need a little bit of experience so that’s what I’ll be looking to add. I have got my feelers out there. I've had a few conversations and I've made a few phone calls. But we'll see how things progress. And we’ll see where it takes us over the next few weeks.

"I think it will be a hectic few weeks for a few teams but there won’t be that much business done because a lot of my players I need to work on and build on what we have done. But I also have to be realistic to know that we may need to strengthen and get some experience into the group. That is what I will be looking to do.

"I brought a lot of younger players in during the last window and they have improved but I need a few more seasoned professionals. It could be a loan or it could be a permanent deal. I'll make a decision based on what I feel is best for the football club. We need something at the back because we are little bit short on defenders.

"Possibly I will look something in the wide positions. We will have a look. The lads have still got a couple of games to show me what they are about and we will see what happens in January."
