John Ward's Walsall defeated Coventry United during the First Round stage, whilst Halesowen dispatched with Vanarama National League North side Tamworth to reach this stage.

Walsall named a young side with academy graduate Kory Roberts being named as captain for the match.

The Saddlers were handed the lead with eleven minutes on the clock as central defender Kyle Morrison deflected a Walsall cross past his own 'keeper, Daniel Platt beaten unable to react as his side fell behind.

Walsall doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time as on-loan Burnley winger Josh Ginnelly crashed the ball home. The Saddlers looking good as the game reached the mid-way point.

Our hosts sought a penalty in the first few minutes of the second half as former Saddler George Bowerman went down under a defensive challenge. Referee Gareth Hubbard waved away the protests and the game continued.

Halesowen grabbed a goal back just before the seventy-minute mark as Jordan Goddard sent a curling free kick past Chandler Hallwood in the Walsall goal. A superb strike from the midfield man.

Walsall would go on to restore their two-goal lead in swift fashion as Tobias Hayles-Docherty tapped home just a couple of minutes later.

The scoring didn't end there as young striker Cameron Peters rounded off the match with a goal in the 90th minute, a resounding victory for the Saddlers who advance to the Quarter Final stage.
