Walsall manager Jon Whitney has spoken to club journalists following the news that First-Team Coach Dean Holden had left the club to join Bristol City as Assistant Head Coach, and has expressed his disappointment before wishing Dean well for the future.

Speaking via Saddlers.co.uk, Jon said; "I’m disappointed to be losing a really good coach and a good friend but it’s a chance for him to work in the Championship. Lee Johnson knows Dean from his playing days and their time together at Oldham. He offered him the assistant manager’s job and Dean sees it as a good move for his career.

"I would like to wish him all the best and thank him for everything he has done for the club. I’ll be looking at our options over the next couple of days but we won’t rush it. We’ll make sure that the person who comes in is right for what we do and the philosophy of the club."
