Walsall Football Club have today confirmed the capture of Anorthosis Famagusta's Cyprus international forward Andreas Makris, following the successful completion of a medical.

Whilst the terms of the deal, which will see him remain at the Banks's Stadium for the next three seasons, will likely remain undisclosed, reports on Sunday evening suggested that the Saddlers had lodged a €150,000 bid, with the Cypriot side seeking around €300,000 for the 20-year-old Cyprus international.

Following a youth career with the likes of Olimpico, Arsenal Paphos, Atromitos Yeroskipou and AEP Paphos, Andreas turned professional with hometown club AEP Paphos in 2012 and went on to make seventeen first-team appearances before joining Anorthosis Famagusta for €20,000 at the start of the 2013/14 campaign.

Since joining Anorthosis, Andreas has made ninety first-team appearances and scored nineteen goals for his side over the last few seasons, going on to firmly establishing himself in the starting line-up.

In addition to his first-team exploits, Andreas has made appearances for the Cyprus Under 16s, Under 19s and full international side and, with the likes of Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and Everton previously showing an interest in his services, could prove to be a major coup for Jon Whitney's new-look Saddlers.

Today's deal sees the Saddlers break their long-standing transfer record which previously stood at £175,000, which they paid to bring Alan Buckley back from Birmingham City in the summer of 1979.
