GATESHEAD 3 CHESTER 0

Gateshead took the lead just after the hour mark as Wes York hooked James Bolton's cross back across goal - and, according to those in attendance, it appeared to be knocked into his own net by the backtracking Theo Vassell.

The home side went on to seal victory with eight minutes remaining as Elliott Durrell lost possession to Wes York, who sidefooted home after playing a one-two with team-mate Ryan Bowman.

Gateshead made it three with three minutes of normal time remaining, as former Walsall defender Manny Smith, who recently joined the Tynesiders following two seasons with Wrexham, nodded home from McLaughlin's right flank cross.

Chester are back in action on Tuesday evening as they welcome Dagenham and Redbridge to the Lookers Vauxhall Stadium.
