Walsall's newly-appointed First-Team Manager Jon Whitney has spoken to club journalists, and has admitted that the chance to become full-time manager was an opportunity too good to turn down.

Speaking via Saddlers.co.uk, Jon said; “It’s not a burden, it’s a challenge - that’s why I’ve taken the job. This was an incredible opportunity for me as a person. It’s also an opportunity for the club and I think we can help each other.

“Of course there’s going to be expectancy but we put a lot of pressure on ourselves internally, and there’ll be external pressure as well. We need to have a bit of realism as well – we may have to build and bed in some players again but I’m excited.

“There are no nerves, no anxiety, just anticipation with a bit of excitement and also a desire to be the best I can be.”
