Following the news that he'd decided to turn down Walsall's offer of a new one-year contract, central defender Paul Downing has taken to Instagram to thank the club's players, staff and fans for their support over the last four years.
Speaking via Instagram, Paul, who posted his statement along with a picture of last season's squad, said; "What a pleasure it was to be part of this team in my final season. 4 fantastic years at Walsall FC which I've loved every minute of. Want to thank all the players, staff and fans for your support during my time and wish the club all the very best in the future."
24-year-old Taunton-born Downing came through the ranks at local side West Bromwich Albion and joined Walsall in 2012, going on to make over 180 first-team appearances.
