AFC Bournemouth midfielder Josh Wakefield, who spent a portion of last season on-loan at Walsall, has been named among the Cherries 'released' list as they prepare for the 2016/17 Barclays Premier League campaign.

Josh, who has been released alongside Sylvain Distin, Stephane Zubar, Josh Carmichael, Mason Walsh and Jon Muleba, joined the Saddlers in late February with a view to a permanent deal.

Josh made no first-team appearances for the Saddlers as he worked towards a possible summer switch to the club.

Walsall remained tight-lipped about the Surrey-born midfielder following his arrival, with some suggesting that he returned to the South shortly after former manager Sean O'Driscoll's departure.
