Walsall's Interim Head Coach Jon Whitney has briefly spoken to club journalists following last weekend's Sky Bet League 1 defeat to Sheffield United, and has praised on-loan Everton defender Matthew Pennington, who made his Saddlers debut following his Emergency Loan Window Deadline Day arrival.

Speaking via Saddlers.co.uk, Jon said; "I was pleased with him. It’s never nice to lose on debut but he did well. He did what we wanted him to do and he was competitive. He got on the ball and was very proactive going forward in the second half, even being an outlet for us at times. He did everything he could and that was exactly what we brought him in for."
