Walsall Interim Head Coach Jon Whitney has spoken to the local press ahead of Saturday's League 1 meeting with Colchester United, and has discussed his belief that youngster Liam Kinsella, who came on for an injured Adam Chambers last weekend, can grow to replace the skipper in the long term.

Speaking via the Express & Star, Jon said; “Adam came off after he got a kick. He is OK and I think he will be alright for Saturday, but I was made up for Liam Kinsella coming on.

“I have told him many times – you can be the new Adam Chambers. He came on and I thought he was fantastic. He kept things simple but he broke things up and was committed.

“All the players, even the lads who can’t get on the pitch, have been fantastic for me. Liam put in a really good shift when he came on, he is a great professional.”
