Following a pitch inspection by match officials, Walsall's Sky Bet League 1 clash with Fleetwood Town, which was due to be played at the Highbury Stadium at 7:45pm this evening, has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Referee Scott Duncan and his colleagues have taken the action following heavy persistent rain in the North West, which is expected to continue throughout the day.

Referee Duncan spoke to Fleetwood Town's media officer following his inspection, he said; "The groundsman at Fleetwood has worked hard on the pitch, but there’s an awful lot of surface water still on it. The goalmouths are pretty treacherous and certainly on the wings. I have to take player safety into consideration. Unfortunately there’s too many suspect areas on the playing surface, with more heavy rain forecast I’m afraid.”

This is the second time that the fixture has been called off as the match was originally scheduled to take place on Saturday, 12th December. A new date will be confirmed in due course.
