On Saturday afternoon Walsall midfielder James Baxendale completed a loan move to Sky Bet League 2 side Mansfield Town, with the Stags hoping to add the Yorkshireman to their squad on a permanent basis.
James made his debut just hours after arriving to meet the squad, and would go on to put in a Man of the Match performance after scoring what turned out to be the winning goal as his side defeated Stevenage by two-goals-to-one.
Following the match Baxendale spoke to MansfieldTown.net and paid tribute to his teammates, he said; “It was a great touch from Greeny (Matt Green) to set me up for the goal. When you’re playing with players like that, it makes it a lot easier.
“The front four rotated well and obviously backed up by everyone else, I thought it was a good display.
“We had to get a grip into the game and I think we got a foothold and played some decent stuff [in the] first half and obviously [in the] second half [we] continued that.”
Mansfield Town's next fixture is away to AFC Wimbledon next weekend.
