Walsall midfielder Sam Mantom has taken another step closer to making a return to first team action as he played seventy minutes of the Saddlers' Birmingham Senior Cup Second Round defeat to Stratford Town, which took place on Wednesday evening.

23-year-old, Stourbridge born Mantom suffered an ankle injury during the Saddlers' Sky Bet League 1 defeat to Chesterfield, which took place at Banks's Stadium on Saturday, 17th October, and has not made an appearance since.

Sam recently returned to full training and is continuing to make good progress as he seeks to regain fitness ahead of a potential return to first-team action.

The Saddlers, who were managed by Richard O'Kelly, were defeated by two-goals-to-nil as their opponents progressed to the Quarter Final of the competition.
