Sky Bet Championship side Brentford, who recently axed manager Marinus Dijkhuizen following a poor spell of form, are set to begin interviewing prospective new managers as they seek to put a new man at the helm ahead of the busy festive period.

According to Sky Sports, highly-rated Walsall manager Dean Smith, who recently agreed a new twelve month rolling contract, and Gillingham gaffer Justin Edinburgh are just two of the names on a list of managerial candidates that Bees owner Matthew Benham has come up with.

Along with a possible immediate appointment, Benham is also said to be considering installing a caretaker manager until the summer of 2016 with a view to approaching a currently employed manager following the conclusion of the current Football League campaign.

Current Bees caretaker Lee Carsley, who was recently named Championship Manager of the Month, is said to be keen on a role in the club's academy system rather than taking the manager's job full-time.

Walsall manager Smith is now one of the longest serving managers in the Football League and was recently linked with the then-vacant manager's position at Rotherham United, before the Saddlers hierarchy rejected the Millers' approach, ultimately leading to Smith signing a new deal.
