Schools Initiative to Attract Over 1,200 Extra Fans

Saturday afternoon's Sky Bet League 1 clash between the Saddlers and top-of-the-table Gillingham will see over 1,200 local school children and their parents in attendance as Walsall Football Club holds another of its School Partner events at Banks's Stadium.

The initiative, which gives local primary schools the opportunity to bring their children to a first-team match for a reduced price, has raised over £600 for local primary schools this season.

St Mary’s the Mount Catholic Primary School, who along with the other participating schools get cash back for the amount of tickets they sell, have sold nearly one-hundred tickets alone.

Paul Larvin, Walsall FC’s Community Manager and Curriculum Coordinator, spoke about the initiative via Saddlers.co.uk, he said; “It’s going to be a good day and we’re hoping our community stand is going to be full. As well as all the visits from the local primary schools, we’ve got the match visits and academy groups coming to the game as well.

“We’ll also have all of our community children from the Saturday morning coming along so we’re hoping it’s going to be a really good attendance, particularly with it being a top-of-the-table clash.

“Any extra support for the players is great and hopefully on the back of this we can encourage these children to get to games more regularly. If they see us win and go top, they might then buy half season tickets or nag their parents to come to games. It’s a really good initiative and we’re pleased with how it’s performing.”
