Following Saturday afternoon's top-of-the-table clash between Walsall and then league leaders Gillingham, visiting manager Justin Edinburgh spoke to his local press and discussed his disappointment as his side suffered their first defeat in seven league games.

Speaking via KentOnline.co.uk, Justin said; “Unfortunately what we have inflicted on teams of late has been done to ourselves and it was hard to take because the boys were magnificent. We roared into a two-goal lead but unfortunately we haven’t been able to see the game out.

“The two goals made a real big swing in the game. Walsall started the second half very strongly but we grew into the game. I thought we might go on and win it. Words are hard but we have to accept our medicine. It is not nice but we have to move on.

“It was real minor details that really hurt us, that half a yard to get closer to the shot for the first goal and to stop the cross (for the second), just minor details. We have been punished for minor things and on another day we wouldn’t. I thought we were excellent and the game plan was carried out to perfection.

“Their lad went for an overhead kick, he miss-kicked it, it’s ended up at someone’s feet and he has smashed it in. It is disappointing to lose but I am proud of the players, they really competed in a fantastic game and it just wasn’t our day.”
