Walsall manager Dean Smith has spoken to the club's official website following Wednesday evening's Capital One Cup Third Round defeat to Chelsea, and has insisted that top-scorer Tom Bradshaw, who limped off during last weekend's draw with Peterborough United, was close to making the match, but was not risked due to his recent injuries

Speaking to Saddlers.co.uk, Smith said; “He was very, very close for the Chelsea game but we didn’t want to risk him because of his track record of injuries over the last season."
