Mantom Delighted to Be Back Among the Goals

Walsall midfielder Sam Mantom, who bagged his first goal in seventeen months, as the Saddlers beat Southend United at the weekend, has spoken to the club's official website and dedicated the goal to his late great-grandfather.

Speaking to Dale Moon of Saddlers.co.uk, Sam said; “I can’t explain how much I’ve missed that feeling. Especially missing all of last season through injury. To get back playing and scoring again is a feeling that I just can’t explain.

“It’s great to get on the score sheet so early on in the season as well. It’s an aspect of my game that I want to improve on so hopefully there will be more to follow.

“I’ve said for a few months now that when I score I wanted to dedicate it to my great granddad who passed away in December.

“He was always talking football with me and was nearly 100 years old when he passed so that one was for him.”
