Walsall manager Dean Smith spoke to the press following Saturday afternoon's draw with local Premier League side Aston Villa, and discussed his search for a defender and has ruled out a loan signing.
Speaking to the Express & Star, Smith said; “The place is up for grabs. I’ve been offered a lot of loan signings in that position but I don’t believe it’s right to bring in a player whose parent club insists they play. You have to earn the right to play.
“There is no doubt we need a centre-back, we need someone to come in whether it’s a progressive young player or a more experienced one. But it won’t be a loan.”
